Key Attractions & What to Expect

  • Spice / Herbal Gardens: you’ll see how spices are grown/processed. Good stop for short walk and photos.

  • Tea Factory: see the tea production process; good view if the plantation is on hills.

  • Temple of the Tooth: sacred Buddhist temple; must dress modestly (cover shoulders/knees), remove shoes.

  • Royal Botanical Gardens, Peradeniya: huge gardens, very beautiful, especially if you like plants/nature.

Travel/Logistics Tips

  • Start early to avoid traffic and to make most of daylight hours.

  • Transport: Private car or van is best. Some tours include hotel pickup.

  • Entrance fees: Bring enough local currency; some places may accept card, but cash is safer.

  • Weather / Clothing: It can get warm; wear light, comfortable clothes. For religious sites, have clothes to cover shoulders/knees. Comfortable shoes are a must.

  • Time management: Be realistic about travel times—roads in the hill country can be winding and slower than expected.

  • What to skip if short on time: If pressed, you might skip the garden or tea factory and focus on Pinnawala + Temple of the Tooth + a short walk around the lake.
